Who Can Open a Vantagepoint Elite Account?

You must be an ICMA-RC accountholder to open a Vantagepoint Elite account as the primary accountholder or as a custodian for a minor’s account.

What Types of Investments Are Available?

Vantagepoint Elite provides you access to a full range of investment options.

Stocks
A stock is a security that represents ownership in a corporation. Through Vantagepoint Elite, you can invest in listed and over-the-counter stocks.

Bonds
A bond can be a government or corporate security that is basically an IOU or promissory note. Whoever issues the bond promises to repay the bondholder, with interest. Vantagepoint Elite allows for you to invest in a wide variety of debt instruments, including Treasury Bonds, Municipal Bonds, Corporate Bonds, and Zero Coupon Bonds.

Mutual Funds
A mutual fund is a pool of individual investment securities managed by a single investment company. Shareholders own shares of the total pool of securities. Investors make money through increases in the fund’s share price and through share dividends. Through Vantagepoint Elite, you may invest in ICMA-RC’s Vantagepoint Funds. You will also have access to more then 5,000 mutual funds form over 350 widely known fund companies.

What Types of Account Ownership are Available?

Vantagepoint Elite allows you elect the account ownership option that best suits your individual investment needs.

Individual Account
Owned by one person.

Tenants in Common
Two or more individuals own a certain portion of an account. Each tenant’s portion is distributable as part of the deceased’s estate, so that if one of the accountholders dies, his/her heirs are entitled to the proportional share of the account.

Joint Tenants with Right of Survivorship
Two or more individuals share an undivided interest in an account. In the event of one tenant’s death, the surviving tenant (or tenants) automatically inherits the property without the necessity of court proceedings.

Trust
An account which holds investment for the beneficiary and is usually structured to achieve specific goals.

Custodian for Minor
An account established for the benefit of a minor but administered by a custodian under the Uniform Gifts/Transfers to Minors Act (UGMA/UTMA). Gifts to the account are irrevocable and become the property of the minor upon their attainment of the age of majority.

What Types of Accounts Are Available?

Through Vantagepoint Elite, you may establish three different types of accounts to best suit your investment need.

Cash
Conventional brokerage account.

Margin
An account that allows you to borrow money to purchase securities.

Option
An account that allows you to purchase options. Options provide you with the right but not the obligation to purchase or sell shares of stock within a specified period of time.
